As we say goodbye to August, I wanted to touch base and thank you for staying engaged with our work amid all the potential distractions of vacations, beautiful summer days and back-to-school preparations. More people read the Capital-Star’s stories over June, July and August than over any three-month period this year. 

But, donations reached their lowest levels of the year (barring a last-minute rally today). I’m not mentioning this to make you feel guilty, but to be transparent with you. After all, we are in this together.

I mean … I get it. Gas prices are fluctuating. There’s a feeling of economic uncertainty. Groceries and energy costs are on the rise. So, I understand the importance of making every dollar count.

If you are facing a tight budget and aren’t able to make a gift to the Capital-Star at this time, it’s OK. We’ll still be here for you, day after day, connecting the dots on how policy decisions impact you and your community. 

But if you are able to invest today, you will be helping to keep your fellow Pennsylvanians educated and informed about issues impacting our great commonwealth — from communities dealing with data centers to food banks struggling to meet demand to why election years mean faster state budgets to who’s serving felony murder sentences.

We offer our work free to everyone. We don't have paywalls or ads. Our stories are free for your local newspaper to republish – in print or online. You can listen to Folo PA wherever you find your favorite podcasts and the team’s audio stories online and on public radio stations across this great commonwealth.
